12 Couple Travelers Who Spark Joy To Your Traveling Plan With Your Partner

Happy Valentine's Day, folks! 😀

If I usually spent Valentine's day alone, being single and miserable, then this year it's different. Well, technically I'm not single but then again I'd still spend my Valentine's day alone since my boyfriend is in Singapore.

But then again, let me throw some mushy stuff to you in case you feel miserable just because you're far away from your partner on this Valentine's day: 14 February doesn't really matter when you're with the right partner. Why? Because you don't need a special day to celebrate love. You could always celebrate love everyday. Or hate, for that matter. 😛

I mean, we agree that as much as you love your partner, there is some stuff about them that makes you want to rip their neck sometimes.

Anyway, since I've just jumped into the bandwagon to plan out a vacation with my boyfriend… I'm checking out some other couple travelers to get some inspo about traveling with my partner. And I decided to list the 12 of my favorites on the day of love. Yeay!

12 Couple Travelers Who Spark Joy to Your Traveling Plans with Your Partner - The BeauTraveler

12 Couple Travelers Who Might Inspire You to Travel with Your Partner

Traveling with your partner would never be as easy as it might seem on Instagram. That's the bitter truth about couple travelers.

All couple who travel together, each one of them have some stories to tell that could be different about some place. So, I have compiled some stories from 12 couple travelers to figure out why they decided to travel together and what's their favorite destination.

I mean, I just got into a relationship very recently and I really want to learn how to keep the sparks, especially when you travel together. And surprisingly, at least 3 of the couple travelers that I talked to, they mentioned the place where I'm heading to with my boyfriend in a few months: Bali.

As an Indonesian, I'm low key proud to have my country mentioned as some people's favorite. Like, romantic destinations are pretty much around the corner and just a bus ticket away. That, until my nerdy boyfriend comes back from his study in the Netherlands.

Anyway, let's get into it… Here are the 12 couple travelers that could spark joy to your traveling plans with your partner!

Tanah Lot, Bali.

When my husband and I first started dating in college, we would pool our money together so that we could travel. Our first trip was a 20-hour long road trip to California, and since then we've never looked back!

When it comes to travel, we are so similar that there's never a conflict of what to do. He's so easy to travel with and is my absolute favorite travel buddy!

We both love food and sometimes the biggest part of our budget is that alone. Plus, he doesn't mind taking 500 pictures just to get ONE.

At first, we would travel to local destinations and on the weekends when we weren't working and I loved how every weekend was an adventure even if we weren't traveling far. Our favorite trip has to be Bali though, we went there for our honeymoon and spent two blissful weeks exploring the culture, eating local foods, and simply enjoying each other's company.

Mt. Bartle Frere, Queensland.

We are currently traveling the world on an extended honeymoon. We got married in November 2017 and set off in April 2018, and are still going!

We both wanted to travel before we met, but life got in the way and before we knew it, we had careers and a mortgage. When we were planning our wedding, we felt like it was a ‘now or never' sort of thing, and just went for it.

It's so special to be able to share some pretty sublime moments across the globe with the person you love and will spend the rest of your life with. No matter where life takes from here, we will always have these memories.

Our favorite travel memory so far is living Van Life on the East Coast of Australia. We were both a little apprehensive beforehand that we would get fed up with the small van we had and being in each other's way all the time, but it was easily the best time of our lives.

Sleeping in remote areas with just the wildlife for company, and waking up to spectacular sunrises was so incredible. We feel very lucky to have been able to do it!

Doolin, Ireland

My wife, Michelle, and I have been traveling together for about 5 years. Travel has always been meaningful in our relationship.

The first time we traveled together was a trip to New York City. It had been a dream of Michelle's to go see a musical on Broadway.

During that trip, we learned a lot about each other. Michelle was able to check an item off of her bucket list, I was able to eat at some amazing restaurants and we both realized how much we loved each other.

We didn't say anything, but it was that trip where we realized how much we loved each other and enjoy adventures together. We have had many memorable experiences, but one of our favorites was in Doolin, Ireland.

At this point, we had spent a few days exploring Ireland. We saw a few small towns, enjoyed kayaking and horseback riding in Dingle and now found ourselves at a bed and breakfast next to castle ruins.

We were able to spend some time enjoying the breathtaking countryside, the Cliffs of Moher in the distance and an amazing sunset, all from our dinner table. We love traveling together because of these moments when you stop to take it all in, reflecting on the things you have done together.

Cheow Lan Lake.

Sometimes you have that one dream which follows you throughout the years, yet somehow you never really get to fulfilling it. And sometimes it takes meeting your better half to give you a gentle but necessary push to convert your dream into an action plan.

This is the story of how our backpacking adventures started. Over six months in, we couldn't be happier about the decision of leaving everything we'd known behind for the opportunity to learn something new and explore the world together.

Our journey has taken us to Southeast Asia. Every day spent here is full of emotions, excitement and suprises; the countless new experiences never seize to amaze us. It is virtually impossible to choose which one is the most memorable, but if we had to pick one, it would be the Cheow Lan Lake trip in the Khao Sok National Park, Thailand.

The gorgeous lake and the lush surrounding jungle are one of the most picturesque places we've ever been to, yet this is only half the reason this trip was special. During the two days, we've been through a couple of nerve-wrecking misadventures which although terrified us at moments, all ended well and contributed to the good story we can now tell.

Our journey has been amazing for each of us individually and even more so for our relationship. We've truly learned that together we are stronger.

Zakynthos, Greece.

My husband and I took the odd trip when we first met, mostly to visit friends or family, but it wasn't until we decided to move to Mexico for two years that the travel bug really bit us!

Now we love to discover new places whenever we get the chance. I think we make pretty great travel partners. We have similar interests and will happily spend our time mixing sports and activities with relaxation, usually somewhere warm.

No matter where we go, we always have a friend to dare us to try something new, help us translate a menu or just to share the adventure and laugh with.

Traveling together has really strengthened our relationship. We have to rely on each other when problems arise and spend so much more time together than we do at home!

We've had so many great times on the road, but I guess we have chosen getting married in the Greek Islands as our favorite travel moment!

With just a handful of our closest friends and family, we said “I do” with bare feet in the sand, followed by sunset pictures, dinner and music all night at our hotel pool bar.

Snorkeling with turtles, island boat trips, relaxing on the beach and too many drinks at night in local tavernas was a pretty awesome way to spend the rest of our days in Zakynthos too!

Namibia.

My husband Nick and I have been married for almost 12 years, and we've spent about 10 of these years traveling!

I am from Italy and he is from Australia, and we met in London where both of us were living at the time. We lived together in London for a few more years when we started traveling – full-time at first, then part-time after we relocated to Italy, and then full-time again, with some breaks every now and then in our home countries.

I honestly couldn't wish for a better travel partner. We both enjoy doing the same things – hiking, eating street food, spending time in nature, walking around cities, wildlife, craft beer – and we've had so many awesome experiences that make us ‘spark with joy'!

If I were to choose one, I would say our 10-year anniversary overland safari to Namibia. One of our campsites had a floodlit waterhole nearby, and we saw elephants drinking right at sunset time. It was truly magical! Can't wait to see what the next 10 years will bring.

Iceland.

We have been traveling together and exploring places since the past 10 years. Traveling and planning for trips is what keeps us together. Recently, we returned from our trip to Iceland, which is also one of our favorite trips so far.

It was an amazing adventure – we explored the streets of Reykjavik, enjoyed their delicious lamb soup and skyr (my husband loved it!) and we ventured in to the countryside in Iceland and explored up to the southernmost tip to the tiny village of Vik.

All the way, we had fun together walking on glacier, climbing unto reach behind a waterfall (Skogafoss), being amazed at the geyser, chasing Icelandic fluffy sheep. They are my favorite, and I was my husband's favorite photo subject, and so much more! We also spent some relaxed moments with each other at the Secret Lagoon.

When we travel, we look forward to spending time together at the airports, transit time, and food and coffee moments and those endless explorations, walks, tours, and talks.

Enjoying these little moments of togetherness, doing what we love most and being blessed with a life partner who enjoys doing it the same way as you is a blessing. We love traveling individually and together.

We complement our traveling styles – I am a planner, but my husband prefers things to go with the flow, without much planning. His flexible and positive attitude keeps our trips happy, if there is a flight delay or if we missed a train, which has happened before!

Komodo Island, Indonesia.

We're Michael and Halef. We're married and have been together since 2008.

Traveling as a couple is rewarding for both of us. Experiencing new places not only challenges us to adapt to cultures, but it also pushes us to understand each other as we experience these changes in our own unique ways.

Thankfully, Halef and I largely have the same travel style. We're two gay men in our 40s, but you might not know that if you traveled with us. We don't fit the mold of more mature travelers. We stay in hostels, use Couchsurfing, and eat street food.

Halef is a meticulous planner who has an extraordinary ability to maximize our fun while not emptying our bank account. We're able to get to 4-6 destinations a year instead of just 1 or 2.

And our favorite of all those destinations is Indonesia – Halef's home country. Indonesia combines all of the travel things we most have in common – scuba diving, incredible food, and ‘budget' everything! It was our first major vacation together and it will likely be our first destination when we begin traveling permanently at the end of 2019.

Gjogv Village, Faroe Islands.

Expedition Wildlife is a culmination of shared love for and interest in exploring nature and the incredible wildlife within.

I am an avian ecologist who enjoys watching and identifying birds and other wildlife for hours on end. Nathan is a wildlife photographer and videographer who also enjoys the peaceful pastime of capturing animals' unique behaviors in their native habitats.

Together, we are a great team, especially with putting our head together to come up with awesome destinations and content to share with others!

One of our favorite destinations is the Faroe Islands, where the rugged and wild landscape drew us in immediately. Stunning scenery and wildlife watching opportunities abound, and we couldn't stop exclaiming to each other just how other-worldly everything felt.

Working in adverse weather and terrain conditions, readily found in the Faroes, can be challenging for anyone. However, working together to enjoy the experience and have fun despite difficulties makes traveling with your partner that much better!

The quiet moments, sitting together to watch, photograph, and film wildlife, are what we love the most.

Mount Batur, Bali.

Our love story has been nothing but a whirlwind adventure from day one.

Just a month after we began dating, we flew off on a 6-week journey around the Indonesian islands. That trip has changed our lives. Not only did it awaken us spiritually, but it laid the foundation of our entire relationship. For this reason (and the insane beauty of this country), Indonesia will always be our favorite destination.

Sitting on the rocky shores of Tanah Lot (The Temple by the Sea), I realized that my life of travel didn't have to leave me lonlely. Over the last two years, we have traveled to Cuba, Mexico, China, Iceland, and so much more learning about one another more and more each day. Traveling together brings out the best in us.

We make each other more adventurous, more outgoing, more intellectual. Traveling together allows us to grow together and I wouldn't trade it for a thing.

Great Rann of Kutch, Gujarat.

Thinking about the past, long before I met the love of my life and presently my dear husband Aditya, I was studying religiously to get high scores so that I would do something with my career.

I always hated the idea of being a homemaker, I wanted to be a career-oriented woman. And of course, I did work hard to achieve that too.

During this period, I met my husband. As I drifted towards him, soon we got married in May 2013 and I also started pursuing a research career.

We have explored many places in India together. And in between, we were blessed with a beautiful baby girl, Karen, in December 2014. However, it doesn't stop us from traveling and exploring new places.

Inside us, there is a wanderer who needs to quench the thirst of wanderlust. Adi and I, we both have itchy feet. We are always looking for a chance, whether it is for a day, a weekend or a week off to travel some place new.

We are so fond of traveling together that we never miss a chance to escape for some place new. The best thing of our traveling together is the choice of places we visit. Both of us are fond of exploring unexplored and hidden places. This combination brings sparks to our travels.

Our favorite destination so far is the Great Rann of Kutch, known as White Desert in Kutch district of Gujarat, the state in the western region of India.

Big Sur, CA in the USA.

We met in 2014, and after 1 year of dating, tired of our 9 to 5 jobs, we decided we wanted a change of scene so we bought a one-way ticket to Europe.

What we thought would be a short trip ended up being a 10-month adventure over 14 countries, walking and eating our way through the continent. After that, we settled in Oxford, UK where we kept on traveling around Europe for the next year.

In 2017, we wanted to go back to Argentina, but we wouldn't just buy a ticket and fly there. Instead, we bought an RV in Canada and drove it all the way down to Panama before catching a flight home after a year and a half filled with adventures on the road.

We love traveling together, because it puts us in new situations all the time, and it challenges the way we see the world and ourselves.

It's not always easy, especially living in a mini-RV 24/7, but we believe traveling has made us and our relationship stronger, and we wouldn't choose it any other way.

Traveling opens up a whole new side to your relationship and we believe it is the ultimate test. If you can survive a long, sweaty, bumpy bus ride together – is there anything you can't do?

Out of all the places we've been together, we agree that Big Sur in California is the one that has left us most in awe: driving our RV around the dramatic cliffs, listening to good music and overlooking the turquoise water of the Pacific is one of our best travel memories ever!
