Eyeglasses or Contact Lenses: The Best Option for Your Sights

People with vision problems have many choices to benefit their vision and improve general eye health nowadays. Many opt for contact lenses or eyeglasses, as they are quick and simple solutions. However, surgical options are also now available and are becoming increasingly popular.

Eyeglasses sit on the nose and do not touch the eyes, which lessens the risk of eye infection, while contact lenses sit directly on the eyes themselves.

Users of contact lenses can switch lenses daily or wear them for more extended periods. However, wearing contact lenses for longer periods can increase the risk of eye infections.

Because eyeglasses sit slightly away from the eye, and contact lenses sit directly on the eye, prescriptions for lenses and glasses are slightly different. Those who wish to use both will require two separate prescriptions. An optician can measure for both during a comprehensive eye examination at Zoom Optics.

Those with contact lenses and eyeglass prescriptions will need to renew both regularly. However, contact lens wearers will need yearly eye checks with their optician whereas those wearing just glasses will require less frequent visits to the opticians.

In regards to choice, eyeglass wearers have plenty more options to choose from, including frame materials, colors, size and style. Lenses can be tinted or have a coating applied to protect from computer screen glare.

Contact lens wearers have less choice but may choose between daily or extended-wear contacts, and hard and soft lenses, or even coloured lenses to change the appearance of the colour of their eyes.

Lifestyle choices may predict your preference for glasses or contacts. Those traveling often may prefer the use of eyeglasses as contacts require maintaining more often.

Many opticians encouraged contact lens wearers to switch to eyeglasses during the coronavirus pandemic

Although there is no evidence that they are more at risk of developing the disease, contact lens wearers tend to touch their eyes more frequently and are thus more likely to contract infections.

Contact lenses solve the problem of correcting vision without affecting appearance. They are also the first choice for those with an active lifestyle participating in sports and running. The downside is the risk of infection and the maintenance required with contact lenses.
