7 Breakup Songs That You’d Probably Need to Listen Right Now

I've got a confession to make today: I'm back to the single world again. I recently broke up, it was around last week when we decided to part our ways for our own good. No drama whatsoever, I guess at this point it was our decision as two adults who just happened to be together for a few months. At some point, we realized that maybe it wasn't a good idea that way. So we liberated each other through a breakup.

Pretty much like many other breakups, it wasn't pretty either. There was some disappointment along the way, the thought of so many what ifs. But I think one of the good things about dating in our 30s is that we know when we need to take separate ways, it's only for the betterment of one and the other.

I didn't even cry when we eventually decided to end our relationship. As I said, this is probably the best for us. But hey, still it doesn't stop me from listening to some breakup songs to pour my emotion.

Because of this, I decided to make a playlist of some breakup songs that might be useful for you. Especially for those of you who probably need to listen to some of them. Not to make the condition even worse, just to ensure yourself that everything is going to be alright.

It is, even though it sucks right now.

7 Breakup Songs You Need to Listen in Order to Move On

The worst part of this breakup wasn't really the issue between us. It's like, I wasn't me in my 20s when I had to cry myself out when my relationship fell apart. I didn't even want to bitch about my ex simply because things simply didn't work. In fact, the breakup was quite easy.

As much as I hate it, I understand when he said that he wasn't sure how we're going to be in the future. And I simply don't want to waste my time to wait for some probabilities. At this point, I think even if I end up being alone, I guess it's alright too.

If anything, the only thing that holds me back from this breakup situation is the expectation from my parents, especially from my mom. I'm in my 30s and they expected things to work out between us. Unfortunately, life is never perfect. So what I did was that I told them it's over, and I need some time to be alone.

1. Carrie Underwood – Good in Goodbye

As bad as it was, as bad as it hurt
I thank God I didn’t get what I thought that I deserved
Sometimes life leads you down a different road
When you’re holding on to someone that you gotta let go
Someday you’ll see the reason why
Sometimes, yeah sometimes, there’s good in goodbye…

By now, I suppose you already know that I'm a big country music fan. And in case you didn't know, I'm a die-hard fan of Carrie Underwood, like I literally live for her. My first breakup, I sang “Start with Goodbye” from her first album because I could relate so much.

Probably the reason why I'm not sure whether I gotta put Good in Goodbye or Start with Goodbye for this piece. But I guess for now, Good in Goodbye is more relatable in a way that I think one day I'll understand why it's better to say goodbye right now.

As much as it hurt, one day you'll see why it's the best thing that could happen. Not just for you, but for the two of us.

2. Taylor Swift – Stay Beautiful

You're beautiful
Every little piece, love; don't you know?
You're really gonna be someone
Ask anyone
And when you find everything you've looked for
I hope your love leads you back to my door
Oh, but if it don't, stay beautiful…

I've got some friend who would make fun of me because I listen to Taylor Swift. And I'm sorry, I'm not even sorry because especially her first three albums are astonishing with so many songs that I could relate.

I mean, I can't comment on her recent album(s) because I no longer listen to her ever since she changed genre. But let's admit that she's really good with words. And this song, in particular, has somehow given me strength with so many breakups that I've had in my entire life.

The album was released when I was a freshman student, I suppose. And I could relate when despite being devastated, I think it's always great to see the good of people. Even if it's your ex.

3. Sara Evans – A Little Bit Stronger

And I'm done hoping that we can work it out
I'm done with how it feels, spinning my wheels
Letting you drag my heart around
And I'm done thinking, that you could ever change
I know my heart will never be the same
But I'm telling myself I'll be okay
Even on my weakest days, I get a little bit stronger…

Have you ever heard about the five stages of grief in which the first one contains denial? The idea of how you could force something to work out. Yes, even though you know there's no reason to make up for it.

Well, I suppose the difference between me 5 years ago and the current me is that I no longer get through that phase when I broke up. It's either take it or leave it from my side. And if it doesn't work out, then I'm sorry.

I'm gonna get disappointed for a while, but I'll be okay and so will he.

4. RaeLynn – Queens Don't

Queens don't hate, queens don't fight
Queens don't stay unless their king treats her right, oh
Every jewel on my crown, you better believe I earned it
Won't keep people around that don't believe I deserve it
No, queens ain't fake
A queen's gonna rule just the way she was made, oh
I ain't 'bout to let nobody come and take me off this throne
Some girls might, but queens don't…

Because self-care is important and you need to know your self-worth in order to find the right person for you. It's no rocket science, but there's a learning curve to get to the stage when you gotta understand that you deserve to be treated like the queen you really are.

When you get to that stage, all is fine. No need to fight to get out of a relationship that doesn't work. You just need to talk it out like a queen, and leave if necessary.

5. Kelsea Ballerini – Miss Me More

But I miss me more
I miss my own beat, to my own snare drum
I miss me more
Miss my own sheets in the bed I made up
I forgot I had dreams, I forgot I had wings
Forgot who I was before I ever kissed you
Yeah, I thought I'd miss you
But I miss me more (I miss me more)

If I could remind my younger self when it comes to relationship, I'd totally tell me to never lose myself for a relationship. The good thing was that I didn't lose myself in my last relationship. If anything, it was the relationship that I felt very peaceful about being me.

I suppose the only problem is that we don't share the same vision in a way that we have our own dreams. Different dreams about how our lives could turn out in the future.

6. Catherine McGrath – Enough For You

If I was enough for you
You'd still have me wrapped around your finger
If I was enough for you
You'd still be drowning out the whispers
Telling me to get out, telling me to stand up
Telling me to run as fast as I could
I'd never know my heart was so bulletproof…

I don't know who needs to hear this, but some relationship could be really toxic for you. Sure we always aim to be the better version of ourselves in a relationship, but you need to know some people just spread their toxic traits to exploit you for their benefits.

Come on, I'm from Indonesia and there were times when I had to deal with guys with strong patriarchy values that belittle me simply because I can't cook.

Sometimes it's just a good thing that I'm selfish enough to speak out when I have to deal with this kind of guys. Get out!

7. Jessie James Decker – I Look So Good (Without You)

Hey I never would have thought that
When you left me
I'd feel sexy and so good in my skin again
And I never would have known that
I'd be dreaming so much better
Without you in my head…

It takes me a while to understand that the best revenge when a relationship failed wasn't really to pray the worst for your ex. It is, in fact, to be the best version of yourself.

You've learned what works and what doesn't for you as a partner in a relationship. And I guess you could enhance the good and learn how to get rid of the bed within you. After all, there's nothing better than feeling good about yourself so you could show your glow not only to your ex… But to the world.
