Hi everyone!
How are your first few days of 2019? Hope this year works well so far for yall, and today I'm going to publish the first post on beauty section this year. What is it all about? Could you guess?!
Well, if you happened to read the last post on Around The World Beauties series, you might know already that I was about to write a Malaysian local product before I decided to go with K-beauty product on the post.
So, in this opportunity, I will use it to write a review of this Malaysian local beauty product that I've tried recently: Syahirah Korean Secrets Hydra Soft Hydrating Mask.
Syahirah Korean Secrets Hydra Soft Hydrating Mask
As Indonesian, I think Indonesian and Malaysian share similarities in terms of beauty trends as well as customer behaviors. For example, Instagram has become the most popular platform to market the beauty products in both countries. In addition to that, K-beauty products are definitely in high-demand!
There's no difference in the background of this local Malaysian product. So, Syahirah is originally Malaysian brand who has played in halal skincare industry since 2007. However, they claim that they use selected ingredients from Jeju Island in Korea. Hence, the ‘Korean Secrets' tagline.
In total, their line of products come in 2 variants: Hydra Soft and White Glow. It's quite easy to find the difference between the two, as the Hydra Soft line comes in dominantly blue packaging, while the White Glow comes in pink.
For this experiment trying the local Malaysian beauty brand, I chose the first variant as I'm not really obsessed to be ‘white' like most girls down here. 😛
The Claim
For this variant, they claim to formulate the products with the hydrating ingredients from the Tri-Flower Essence, which include ginseng, chamomile and green tea flowers.
Apart from the high-quality ingredients, they also claim to develop the product that is effective to moisturize our skin effectively and optimally while also locking the skin moisture up to 24 hours. In addition, they also have antioxidant benefits as well as help brighten the skin.
But, is that true or they simply just sell dreams to customers? We'll see! 😉
The Price
Now that I've actually strolled around to a few numbers of drug stores in Malaysia, one thing that I could take from my journey is that Syahirah Korean Secrets products can be easily seen almost everywhere. Find the nearest Watsons or Guardian, you may find the complete series of the brand.
I got the hydrating mask for 6.9 MYR (around $1.6 USD) per packet at Watsons in Kuching. Compared to other sheet masks, I have to admit that this one is quite pricey. However, I was at that #YOLO point when I bought it for the sake of trying. So, is it worth the price?
Review: Syahirah Korean Secrets Hydra Soft Hydrating Mask
As yall probably know by now that I'm the kind of customer who's actually price-sensitive. Like I calculate everything by whether it's worth the price or not since I don't have a lot of money, to begin with. 😛
Long story short, even though I bought the mask in Kuching, I tried the product only recently.
The First Impression
The first thing I noticed about the sheet mask is the size and the shape of it. Honestly, I didn't really like the texture of the sheet mask as it was a bit rough. And when I put it on my face, I just know that I might just hate this mask all at once.
The size of the sheet mask is too wide. Even for my face and chubby cheeks. Like it wasn't comfortable at all to apply. That was such a huge turn-off, really. I mean, you might be able to see that some part of the sheet mask folded around my jaw.
I know you might look weird with the sheet mask on, but not this weird. Ugh.
The only plus of this hydrating mask is that this one is probably for those who are big fans of the essence in sheet mask. They've got lots of it. Too bad, it's a lot to the point that I find it slightly disturbing. So, it didn't become a plus point for me either. 🙁
The Final Verdict
Needless to say, hate is a strong word but I really, really don't like this sheet mask. I mean, I don't normally hate the sheet mask I've tried, but I'm 100% sure that given a chance, I would try some other product that might work better.
(+)
- It comes in such cute packaging with pastel colors and everything.
- You can find Syahirah Korean Secrets products in a lot of places throughout Malaysia.
- The essence is definitely flooding through the sheet mask. Might be a plus if you like it, but I personally don't. 🙁
(-)
- I find this product quite pricey compared to how it works on my skin. I've tried some other products that are less expensive and they worked better than this.
- The texture of the sheet mask is thick and a bit rough. It might be uncomfortable for some, including me.
- I couldn't really tell the difference between the before and after effect. I couldn't tell if it actually triple hydrates my skin as it claims, the only thing I felt from using the sheet mask was that sticky essence on my face.
Repurchase or Nah?
Definitely nah is the answer…
I mean, the first impression was the reason why I had to choose the K-beauty product instead of this on my Around The World With Beauties series. Because I simply didn't like the product and the outcome on my skin.
Especially with the fact that it's quite pricey, I might as well just buy 2 packets of Cherimoa that clearly works on my skin much, much better as well.
So yeah, frankly speaking, I wouldn't bother to repurchase it and I might as well find another local Malaysian beauty product that works better than this. Maybe one without any K-beauty influence. 😐
