I'm a hopeless romantic.
No matter how much I claim myself as a strong and independent woman who doesn't need any man in my life, I still have a small dream about marrying the love of my life at some point in my life. I'm a bit surprised how I'm still single when I'm almost 30 when really I thought I'd be married by 11-12-13.
11th of December 2013, 5 years have passed and I'm still here. Single as fuck. RIP Expectation.
You know what's the sad part about not throwing my own wedding party? Not having my wedding songs played.
My (Future) Wedding's Playlist
I don't want to make the list come to waste since there's no sign that I'm going to get married anytime soon. That's why, I decided to write about this.
Maybe you're a bride-to-be who's not too sure what songs you need to put on your wedding playlist. Or maybe you're just feeling sentimental and you want to listen to some wedding songs for no reason. Or maybe you're just somewhat tired of those generic wedding songs that you listen to in literally every wedding you've attended in your entire life. Whatever.
Just a few months ago, I played this ‘playlist game' on Instagram where I share some songs of my life through my Stories. And one of my friends who is a wedding singer actually commented on my wedding song, and told me that she's willing to be my wedding singer in the future.
Told her I've got a list of songs she needs to practice. I might as well just give her this link one day when I need it. π
1. Westlife – Tonight
Tonight, I'm gonna make it up to you
Tonight, I'm gonna make love to you
Tonight, you're gonna know how much I miss you, baby
Tonight, I dedicate my heart to you
Tonight, I'm gonna be a part of you
Tonight, you're gonna know how much I miss you
Baby
I remember I was in the middle of a group project at my friend's place during my college time when this song was played on the radio.
As hopeless as it sounds, we stopped what we did then and being some young ladies in our early 20s and frustrated by college assignments, we were like, “Jeez, wouldn't that be great if we could just use this song in our wedding day?”
Fast forward to today, my friend is now happily married with 2 children and I'm still here waiting for the song to play on my wedding day.
2. Steven Curtis Chapman – Cinderella
So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms
‘Cause I know something the prince never knew
Oh, I will dance with Cinderella
I don't wanna miss even one song
‘Cause all too soon the clock will strike midnight
And she'll be goneΒ
I don't grow up with Christian music, and the first time I listened to Steven Curtis Chapman, it was during the Narnia movie came out and one of the soundtrack music is his song. I loved the song so much to the point that I searched on more of his songs back in the day. And I found this one.
And the first time I listened to it, I know I want to play this song more than Bryan McKnight's Marry Your Daughter on my wedding day. This song has its sentimental vibes about the relationship progress between a daughter and a father. And I simply want to have this on my playlist if one day I'm getting married.
I mean, my dad is not exactly an emotional person, to begin with. But I always remember the first time I saw him crying: it was when he had to bid farewell to me when I was ready to relocate to Saudi Arabia a few years ago.
3. Chuck Wicks – Stealing Cinderella
She was playing Cinderella
She was riding her first bike
Bouncing on the bed and looking for a pillow fight
Running through the sprinkler with a big popsicle grin
Dancing with her dad, looking up at him
In her eyes I'm Prince Charming
But to him I'm just some fella
Riding in and stealing Cinderella
The thing about not really growing up into a Disney princess for me is that I'm ironically obsessed with the song with Cinderella in the lyrics. π
The first time I listened to this song, I think it was during my college time as well and the naive part of me just couldn't help but imagine my prince charming asking for my dad's hand for me. The Cinderella of the song.
I mean, sure I couldn't care less about the real Cinderella and her Prince Charming on the Disney stories. But of course I wouldn't mind to be a Cinderella on my own.
4. Carrie Underwood – Mama's Song
And I know you watch me grow up
And only want what's best for me
And I think I found the answer
To your prayersAnd he is good, so good
He treats your little girl like a real man should
He is good, so good, he makes promises he keeps
No he's never gonna leave
So don't you worry about me
In case you didn't know how much I love Carrie Underwood, then just know that I'm a fangirl. I've adored him since her American Idol period, and definitely purchased the CD when I was in high school. Even now, I've got all of her complete albums on my Spotify. And it's so hard to imagine my wedding without one of her songs.
I mean, I owe her songs for so many periods in my lifetime. From breaking up for the first time, living far away from home, to even getting some revenge for the cheaters. She's literally the storyteller of life in general.
And this Mama's song in particular, I guess with the people romanticizing the relationship between father and daughter on the wedding, this is definitely a must-have song that I need to put on my playlist. For the sake of my mom because she's indeed very entitled to my own happiness.
5. Crystal Shawanda – You Can Let Go
I was standin' at the altar
Between the two loves of my life
To one I've been a daughter
To one I soon would be a wife
I actually forget when or where I listened to this song for the first time, but I suppose I wanted this song to be played on my wedding day ever since. I just love the part when the father gave her away, and the lyric where she's more ready to move to the next love of my life who's her soon-to-be husband.
When I heard the song, I could actually feel a lot of emotions created from a wedding. And I can't wait to feel it on my own!
6. Thomas Rhett – Die A Happy Man
And I know that I can't ever tell you enough
That all I need in this life is your crazy love
If I never get to see the Northern lights
Or if I never get to see the Eiffel Tower at night
Oh if all I got is your hand in my hand
Baby, I could die a happy man
Okay, so a song that is (supposed-to-be) from the groom's side, but really I need to pick this one because if anything, he needs to know that I'm a selfish bitch before he even decides to marry me. π
There's no point to marry me if he can't even relate to this song, eh?!
7. Martina McBride – I Love You
And I'm in so electrically charged up kinetically
Actin' erratically, need you fanatically
You get to me magically
Sure as the sky is blue
Baby, I love you.
I'm not sure about the wedding in the other places, but in my home country Indonesia, when it comes to Martina McBride and wedding, people seem to only have ‘Valentine' as the theme of the wedding song.
As much as I like the song, I love this ‘I Love You' song better. I think this song would keep it going. Like, the cheerful tune of the song makes it hard to forget why you love the other person in the first place. Ideally, we could one day listen to the song again and remember how happy our wedding was with the song.
I mean, marriage life won't be easy peasy, so maybe this song could cheer you up when life gets hard. One day.
Any Song That I Need to Add on My List?
Well, after all it's still a mystery to find out whether I will ever get married, to begin with. So, I might as well keep your suggestion in mind. Tell me your wedding song, or the songs you want to play if one day you get married.
Until then, cheerio! π
