The 5 Best Countries for Retirement

A lot of us envision a life outside of our home country when we finally call time on our working life. After decades of toil and with the kids now all grown up, it makes sense to live out your autumn years in a land you’ve always dreamed of exploring.

When it comes to moving to distant lands to enjoy our retirement, however, it’s not always a case of wishes coming true. Unless money is no object, you have to balance the deep-seated desire with some reality.

What this means is we need to be practical when choosing places to retire because the best doesn’t necessarily equal ideal, especially when factoring in the overall cost of putting down roots.

Vietnam-Cambodia by Land: Ha Tien to Kampot with Champa Mekong Express Bus

Hi everyone!

I know I’ve been missing in action for the past week because I got sick. I was planning to write about the review of my journey to get across Vietnam-Cambodia border by land last week, but then I just didn’t have the energy to do it so here I am!

It’s Idul Fitri holiday here in Indonesia, so anyway Happy Eid Mubarak for those who celebrate it… Anyway, I’m not so big at the celebration itself, so in this post I’m gonna share with you my experience to cross Vietnam-Cambodia border with Champa Mekong Express Bus.

As I mentioned in the previous post, I couldn’t find any transportation option from Chau Doc to Kampot online. Going to Ha Tien first was my only way in order to get the bus ticket to Kampot, since most of the transportation options from Chau Doc to Cambodia go directly to Phnom Penh.

After staying overnight in Ha Tien, I took Champa Mekong Express Bus from Ha Tien to Kampot and I’ll share with you the review of my journey with them here! 🙂

Hai Chau, Chau Doc Hotel: A Recommended Place to Stay in An Giang Province

Despite all the travel bans around the world due to Covid-19, I’m not gonna stop writing some of my experiences I had on my last trip around Indochina. It’s better to update it now when I still have a good memory about my journey. Besides, I took almost 2 months that I got plenty of things to write about.

Now that you’ve probably read about my last post about places to visit around An Giang Province, today I’m gonna write a review about the hotel where I stayed for a couple of nights in Chau Doc: Hai Chau Hotel

If you’re looking into the accommodation around Chau Doc, chances are you won’t find as many hotels or hostels as you get in the other cities in Vietnam. I suppose it’s also because there aren’t so many international tourists coming to Chau Doc. If anything, most of them who come to Chau Doc are probably enroute to or from Cambodia.

What You Could Get in Hanoi for $10 – A Budget Guide to Vietnam’s Capital City

In case you don’t know yet, Vietnam has been my favorite country so far. It’s the only country that I visited twice voluntarily.

And even though I didn’t get a chance to visit the capital city on my last trip a couple of months ago, this week I’ve got James and Lee of The Travel Scribes to share how far you could get in Hanoi for $10.

Would I like to come back again to Hanoi like I did Ho Chi Minh City? I don’t see why not, I’d like to explore more places in the north.

So, what could you get in Hanoi for $10 USD?

An Giang Province, Vietnam: Places to Visit Around Chau Doc

In case you haven’t read my previous review of G5 Comfort Car that took me to Chau Doc from Ho Chi Minh City, then just know that Chau Doc became the second city I visited on my last trip to Vietnam.

If I gotta be honest with you, I didn’t know anything about Chau Doc or An Giang Province before. The only reason I decided to go to Chau Doc was because sometime last year, I matched with a Vietnamese guy on OKCupid and I asked for his recommendation to visit around the Vietnam-Cambodia border.

At first, I was planning to stop by Phu Quoc before going to Cambodia. But since beaches are the main attractions in Phu Quoc and I recently came back from Bali, I’d rather visit a place with different things to offer. Even better if it’s one of the off the beaten track destinations in Vietnam.

Anyway, it was serendipity to match with this cute Vietnamese guy even though he stopped talking to me and removed me from Instagram for no reason after a while. Because guess what? I may not find my last visit to Vietnam as fantastic as the first one, but no doubt Chau Doc has now become one of my favorite cities in Vietnam!
