Vietnam-Cambodia by Land: Ha Tien to Kampot with Champa Mekong Express Bus

Hi everyone!

I know I’ve been missing in action for the past week because I got sick. I was planning to write about the review of my journey to get across Vietnam-Cambodia border by land last week, but then I just didn’t have the energy to do it so here I am!

It’s Idul Fitri holiday here in Indonesia, so anyway Happy Eid Mubarak for those who celebrate it… Anyway, I’m not so big at the celebration itself, so in this post I’m gonna share with you my experience to cross Vietnam-Cambodia border with Champa Mekong Express Bus.

As I mentioned in the previous post, I couldn’t find any transportation option from Chau Doc to Kampot online. Going to Ha Tien first was my only way in order to get the bus ticket to Kampot, since most of the transportation options from Chau Doc to Cambodia go directly to Phnom Penh.

After staying overnight in Ha Tien, I took Champa Mekong Express Bus from Ha Tien to Kampot and I’ll share with you the review of my journey with them here! 🙂

Review: River Hotel Ha Tien, Staying Overnight on the Way to Kampot from Vietnam

After weighing in whether or not I should stay overnight in Ha Tien on my way to Kampot from Chau Doc, with the limited number of minibus going to Cambodia from Vietnam on a daily basis I decided to just stay in Ha Tien for one night.

I created a brief itinerary about some places to visit in Ha Tien, but I ended up not going anywhere except for dinner because the weather was too hot and I found out that Grabbike wasn’t available in the city. So yes, if you want to get around the town in Ha Tien, the best option is to take a taxi.

But since I was traveling solo and on the budget at the time, I decided to just stay in the hotel where I stayed overnight there: River Hotel, Ha Tien.

Enroute to Kampot from Vietnam: Bus from Chau Doc to Ha Tien

When I started my Indochina trip earlier this year, I basically knew where I wanted to go for the trip. However, I didn’t have some fixed itinerary during the trip because there were some changes that I ended up making along the way. One of them was my decision to stop by Ha Tien from Chau Doc.

The thing is that I couldn’t find any transportation options from Chau Doc to Kampot online, and I figured that the only option to go to Kampot from An Giang Province is to go to Ha Tien first.

From Ha Tien, there is a minibus that directly goes to Kampot on a daily basis but the latest departure is around 1 PM. So I should either start really early in Chau Doc if I wanted to catch the bus to Kampot from Ha Tien or stay overnight in the city. I chose the later and managed to book a bus ticket from Chau Doc to Ha Tien from the hotel where I stayed in An Giang Province, Hai Chau Hotel.
