Indonesia’s 74th Independence Day: Indonesia Beyond Bali, Where to Go and What to See Around the Country

As an Indonesian blogger who mainly writes about travel, I often encountered fellow travel bloggers who would list Bali among the name of countries in Southeast Asia like Malaysia or Singapore. That, my friends, has become my own pet peeve ever since.

Like, seriously… There were times when I feel like I want to question them whether they even notice the name of the country as a whole, and not just Bali.

So, it’s the 17th of August and for those of you who don’t know… It’s the independence day of Indonesia. The 74th as we declared our independence in 1945.

And for today’s post, I’ve teamed up with some fellow bloggers who knew better than THAT, we’re gonna talk about the places that are worth visiting in Indonesia. The places that are NOT just Bali. The places that would show you the diversity in the country, more than just a tiny island called Bali. 😉

6 Must-Try Local Delicacies in West Kalimantan

So, here’s the thing… Being a foodie is not exactly my cup of tea. Or maybe it is.

Like, I love to eat, and I’m not the kind of person who would answer ‘whatever’ to the question on where we’ll go for our next meals because chances are, I’ll be craving for something already.

But then again, in the social media era where everyone takes a pic of their food every time, I honestly can’t relate. I love eating too much that I often forget to take a pic of my food. And I’m not even sorry.

However, when I decided to go to Pontianak, my starting point of my Borneo trip, I decided to learn how to stop myself from eating just to introduce you to the local delicacies in West Kalimantan. This is the province in Indonesia that is quite well-known for its culinary.

In case you wonder why two cities that I’ve visited in West Kalimantan are worth to visit, I’ll give you the reason. Pontianak and Singkawang are two places where the recent Indonesian movie, Aruna dan Lidahnya, took place. And if that’s not enough reason to visit them, the movie focuses on some of the best Indonesian food.

The Summary of My Borneo Trip: Where I’ve Been and Why I Chose Them

Hey, get ready for a long post!!

It’s been almost two weeks since I arrived back home from my Borneo trip. I swear I really wanted to write a post about this earlier, but darn the post-vacation blues situation is real over here.

Also, by the time I reached Sibu in Borneo, I got a problem with the keyboard on my laptop to the point I totally lost my desire to write. Now that I’m home, I’ve purchased yet another keyboard to smash. 😐

Well, since it took almost a month for me to explore Borneo on my own, this post won’t do the justice about what I’ve seen throughout my trip. I’ll create some more follow-up updates about each place I’ve been or how it’s been.

So, in this post I’ll be focusing on the where and the whys.
