Blog Trial and Error: What Works and What Doesn’t Throughout My Blogging Journey

Hi everyone!

I figure it’s been a while since the last time I wrote something related to blogging. I just deactivated my Indonesian blog and I’m currently in the mood to talk about my blog trial and error. I’ve been blogging for forever, but I only took blogging seriously (and not for the sake of journaling or ranting) since 3 years ago.

Now that I decided to deactivate my Indonesian blog, it’s obvious that there’s something about it that doesn’t work to my liking. So, here I am writing about the blog trial and error that I’ve done throughout my blogging journey in the past few years.

Besides, during this difficult time in the quarantine, I know some people might run out of the ideas to kill the boredom. Well, you might as well consider starting a blog to spend in your free time. So, what’s up with blogging this time?

The Ultimate Guide to When You Want to Start Earning Extra Income Through Blogging

If you ask me whether I’m a full-time blogger or not, I’m conflicted to answer. In a way, I spend most of my time sitting in front of the computer and check what I can do with it to be more attractive to read. Be it regarding the content, or the layout. But then again, I barely could live solely from my blog.

So, this post is not exactly about how you could earn six-figure in a month from blogging because it’s not. This post is about how sometimes something could turn out alright when you least expected it to work even well enough.

My source of income is mainly from some remote works that I’ve got. I work as a freelance copywriter for some local Indonesian brands while I’ve also worked as Social Media Strategist for some local celebrity.

These jobs work well for me to at least pay my bills on time. But compared to my previous 9-to-5 job, it’s more than half of my usual income. And the only good thing is that I no longer have to pay for the rent as I now live in my parents’ house.

And one of the things that have turned out alright for me after I moved back in is this blog. Why? Because unexpectedly, this blog helps me to get some extra income every once in a while.

WordPress for Dummies: Why You May Want to Choose .org Over .com

Unless you haven’t read my post on the rookie mistakes that I’ve done when I started blogging, then you probably know that if there was anything that I wish I knew earlier, it was the fact that there are actually two kinds of WordPress. And if I knew it earlier, I’d totally go for the wordpress.org anytime.

I mean, the only disappointment that I got when I started this blog, it was the fact that I upgraded my blog into personal plan on wordpress.com.

Because of this, I had to spend extra in one-year period solely for blogging. And I couldn’t blame anyone but myself. I mean, I’m not really tech-savvy, and I had to do everything all by myself. Too broke to hire an assistant whatever, yet I had to pay extra because of my own mistakes.

But because of the stupid mistakes that I’ve done earlier, now I want to share with you who thinks about starting your own blog with absolutely zero knowledge of WordPress.

4 Rookie Mistakes That I’ve Done When I Started Blogging

Last month, it was this blog’s anniversary.

Not that it matters, because I’m still struggling to gain some viewers and sometimes I get some writer’s block in a way I have no idea what to write. However, I think it’s a great step as in I’ve learned many things from my first year to work on The BeauTraveler. 🙂

As you may probably read it somewhere on my post, I only decided to actually focus on monetizing my blog last year. I have been blogging since forever, using different platforms in the past. From the classic LiveJournal to the mainstream Blogspot, I used everything.

It was until in 2009 when I decided to only focus on updating my daily journal on Tumblr. Until last year, I finally decided to start learning more about blogging and how to work things out so I could make it a source of income.

And if you’re familiar with the term rookie mistake, then I’ve done it. A lot of it.
