RIP Chester Bennington (1976-2017)

I just finished shower to get ready for work when I checked Instagram and found some post and instastories of Chester Bennington's death 2 days ago. It was shocking. But not really.

I'm not a huge fan of Linkin Park, but I couldn't deny the fact that I grew up with their music in my adolescence period. I bought at least 2 Hybrid Theory's cassettes (yes, they were literally in the cassette version!), both with and without My December in the bonus track version.

I remember I made a big of deal with Mike Shinoda sharing his birthday with mine (it's February 11th for those who don't know, btw!), but of course being the other frontman of the band, Chester Bennington has always had a special heart for those who grew up in the year of 2000s.

Hearing the news about him departing due to depression was shocking, but then we should remember that everyone has their own battle.

In fact, it's devastating to hear yet another news about people dying through suicidal. It's even worse to see that people often underestimates the vitality of mental issues.

Think about it, just like physical immune system, people's mental immune system is different too. And most of the time, people don't have any knowledge about this if they're not just trying to avoid that.

Chester Bennington was, is and always will be a legend for me and my generation.

I could see it from all my friends' post on social media, as well as the fact that everyone in my office suddenly had an urge to play Linkin Park on Youtube the day we heard the news about his death.

A penny for my thoughts, oh no I'll sell them for a dollar
They're worth so much more after I'm a goner
And maybe then you'll hear the words I been singin'
Funny when you're dead how people start listenin'

If I Die Young (The Band Perry)

The world is getting crazy. As a human, I think it's a wise decision if we start listening to other people instead of belittling them with their own battle.

Maybe, just maybe, this is how the X generation felt like when they lost Kurt Cobain from suicidal.

  1. So true. 🙁 A lot of people are dismissive of mental problems… and then there’s religious ones who say, “If you have faith in God, you won’t comm it suicide.” Arrgh. We should be more understanding and compassionate with one another.
