In case you’re not familiar with my traveling style, my traveling style is something in-between a budget traveler and not-so luxurious one.

I mean, I’m totally fine with the idea of staying at a cheap motel with a small room as long as I could get a quality time through doing my makeup without any disruption. I’m not exactly the kind of person who would ask for a pic anytime I see a good stop for the ‘gram, but clothes and makeup are the essential things for me to travel comfortably.

I’m not exactly fashionable, as I’m kind of a sucker when it comes to the idea of mix and match things I’ve got in my clothes. However, I’m not exactly a t-shirt and jeans kind of person either.

As you know, it’s pretty rare to find me writing a post with such a short title like this, but here I am. This time, I want to share some tips about how to travel smart in ASEAN countries because, who’s a better person to tell you if not me, someone who’s a part of the tribes?

And for those who are not familiar with ASEAN, then let me tell you a piece of my knowledge. ASEAN stands for the Association of South East Asian Nation, an intergovernmental organization in this part of the world. And no matter how our people say otherwise, we’re pretty much similar from one and another.

I mean, if we’re so different, then why the heck people looked at me as if I was a trashy Filipino who could barely speak Tagalog in Manila?

I think if you took some time to ask people who love traveling why they bother to leave their comfort zone and flee to some foreign place, the answer would be quite clear: for us, it’s always good to experience some place that we’ve never been before.

But then again, don’t think that all places that we’ve visited gave us some satisfaction, because sometimes you expected something too much that when you got there, you did nothing but cringe because you were just not ready for such an ugly truth.

I mean, with the technology and all, pretty much like your face with Instagram filter, some places look even greater in the pictures and when you get there, well clearly the pictures are simply overrated.

On this post, I’ve listed 7 tourist attractions that made me feel that way. You may not agree with me, so I’m open with your two cents! 😀

Taukkyan War Cemetery: Reminiscing The Lost Lives In The World War 2

If you asked anyone who has ever gone to a date with me in any way possible, I think it’s fair to say that I’m quite flexible and easy to go with. As long as I remember, I rarely had a fight over where to go or what to have for dinner when I dated anyone. When one gets indecisive, I’ll come as a rescue for both of us while being my ol’ lady boss giving suggestion where to go or what to eat.

The same thing happened when I went to Yangon with Max back in 2015. The difference between Max and me is that he’s a very laid-back traveler who will be quite satisfied by staying at the hotel in the foreign city and going out only when he has to. On the other side, I am always that traveler who’s got someplace in mind whenever I get a chance to visit a new place.

Before we arrived in Yangon, I’ve already prepared myself with some information about the city. At the time I was already familiar with Myanmar and their political situation, thanks to 4-year education on International Relations. But other than that, I didn’t even know what to prepare before traveling to Myanmar.

The good thing is that my attitude kinda helps me to adjust things in various situations. So I was just like… Veni, vedi, vici. 😛

And that was exactly what happened when I landed in Yangon, Max with his meh attitude just agreed on the idea of us going to the generic and touristy Shwedagon Pagoda until I saw this brochure at the hotel seeing some pictures of this big, well-maintained cemetery. Taukkyan War Cemetery.

So I asked the receptionist about this cemetery and the receptionist told me that this cemetery is quite far from Yangon, around 1.5 hours by car from where we stayed. And we stayed in the city center, FYI.
