I hope everything is going well with you amid this coronavirus situation. I know things have been tough lately. Some of you probably don’t get used to the idea of self-quarantine to the point that you’re somewhere in between scared and pissed off with the situation.

You’re not alone. I spend most of my days staying at home, doing what you call self-quarantine, with or without coronavirus. And I still miss the time when I took things for granted, something as simple as going out to eat without the anxiety that I might carry the virus on the way back.

In the past couple of weeks, I realized that some of you might come across my post on what to do during self-quarantine. This time, I want to share with you on things to do in order to cope with your coronavirus stress. Because honestly, we’ve all been there.

Coronavirus Stress and How You Could Cope with It

When the issues about the coronavirus aroused, I was preparing for my Indochina trip earlier this year. And I didn’t worry much about it because I was in preparation for my Indochina trip. I was excited to go back to Ho Chi Minh City after 3 years. Just like probably most of you, I also thought that it was just the media that exaggerate everything in order to scare us.

But then I got sick in Laos to the point I got tested for the coronavirus myself. I started to worry about it, and then I had to reroute my trip only to get back home with the first case confirmed in my home country Indonesia. Even worse, because the first case was actually the mother and the sibling of my senior back when I was in university.

Once I got back home, I barely went out because I was afraid that I might have it even though I got tested in Vientiane and it was negative. I was too paranoid because the sore throat was still there even after weeks I arrived in Indonesia.

If you think you’re stressed about coronavirus, imagine if you were me… And mind you, I come from an Asian household in which I have a family group where random aunty would share some fake news about the virus. My mom is in denial about the danger of the coronavirus and I could only roll my eyes so hard.

So, how do I cope with the coronavirus stress myself?

1. Turn off your notification or your access to the fake news.

If there’s anything I should learn from reading various media platforms these days, it is that it’s almost difficult to tell the difference between the fake media from the legit ones. So the best thing I could do is just ignore all the news about coronavirus.

I know, this makes me sound like I’m a caveman. But what choice do I have? Given the choice, I’d prefer to know nothing than having to swallow everything with the stress. 😐

Well, I spend my time on Facebook on a daily basis. It’s a perfect time to be a shitposter because since I overshare memes on my profile, the algorithm shows me more memes than news. I’m pretty sure some people on my friend list think that I’m a fucked up human being who chose disturbing memes over being vigilant about the real situation.

But believe me, there are times when I know I shouldn’t bother of how people think about me.

2. It’s all about physical distancing, not exactly social distancing.

Well, they suggest us to distance ourselves physically. Not emotionally. So guess what? It’s actually a perfect time to restart your emotional connection with people that matter to your life.

Yesterday, I got bad news about my former math teacher passing. He was my teacher during the 9th grade. He was also suspected of the coronavirus before he passed away. So I woke up today telling my mom the news, only to my surprise that my dad replied with something like, “Oh, was that the big, tall man with the sunglasses?”

To be fair, I know my mom would be interested in knowing the news because she took care of everything about school-related issues back when we were at school. So I was really surprised when my dad replied with that question to the point I was like, “Wait, you know my teacher? How?”

“Of course I do, I think I took your report once or twice when you were at school.”

Just when I thought that my dad knew nothing about my education except for paying for it, he actually proved me wrong. Well done, dad!

3. Start working out or meditating.

Look, I have to admit that this part is not my strength. I hate working out and I’m not the kind of person who would talk to you about being on the ‘zen’ because I certainly am not. But hey, I have cats to help me working out when they get naughty, so it still counts.

But well, if you’re that fitness kind of girl, I guess you have plenty of options to work out and stay shape. From following some yoga videos on Youtube, to installing some relevant apps for it. I used to do yoga with some Youtube videos back when I was in Jeddah. But these days, I just got too lazy to do the exercise. My bad. LOL.

However, believe me… Working out could release the tension. I’d recommend making out, but we should practice physical distancing these days so it’s a no from me dawg. 😛

4. When everything fails, just go take a nap.

See I’m a lazy person, okay? Taking a nap is my last shot to release stress. When things get really stressful, I sleep it off and it usually works.

After all, I’m not an expert when it comes to stress management. Funny and fucked up memes are my coping mechanism and so far, I think it works quite well. So napping is my last shot if you can’t manage your stress during this Coronavirus outbreak.
