I’ve never thought that I’d be able to write about a topic that I am an expert in. But when I do, it is ironically when there’s a pandemic outbreak like coronavirus. Or what some of you say Covid-19 case.

Now that almost all countries lockdown in their area, those who don’t still recommend people to do self-quarantine in order to prevent the spreading of the virus. I understand some of you might get quite frustrated with the idea of having to isolate yourself from your environment. But guess what?! I shamelessly do this all the time.

I’ve got the privilege to work from home. And when I don’t travel, what we call self-quarantine is basically my lifestyle. I barely meet people because I have all the conversations through e-mail, Slack, or Whatsapp.

Despite the fact I live with my parents, I have the second floor of my parents’ house for me since my sister lives in Jakarta. The only creatures that get in touch with me often are basically just my cats. Some people see it as a miserable thing to happen to someone. I’d say it’s a blessing.

So, in this post, I’ll share with you some things to do during self-quarantine, in case you have no idea what to do during this hard time for everyone. Believe me, self-quarantine is not that hard. The hard thing is those people who still have to go to work to make their ends meet during this time.

What to Prepare for Your Self-Quarantine

I see news about people panic buying toilet papers, and my (new) boyfriend said that he could barely find either rice or pasta in the down under so I guess things are THAT bad in some part of the world.

Look, the maximum period to do this self-quarantine is only like 2 weeks, right? Stop being so selfish and stocking up for yourself as if you’re going to get through some kind of hermitage for like 30 years. To give you a context, a pack of ramen would be around 30 to 40 packets. That really should be more than enough for 2 weeks.

To be fair, if you usually do grocery shopping once a month, you could actually just the same thing as you normally do with no problem. So why rushing into a life stock now?!

And to be fair, there’s nothing you need to worry about self-quarantine except for your readiness to the idea of solitary. So, are you ready? Let’s jump into things to do during your solitary time! 🙂

4 Things to Do During Your Self-Quarantine

Almost like all of you, napping and snacking are also the activities that I look forward to everytime. Yep, even when I work from home. I swear, I could spend only 20 minutes working only to find myself chilling on my bed for like 2 hours and taking some accidental nap. 😛

But hey, those two activities are not the things that we’d like to discuss today. Instead, I’m going to outline the activities that could boost your productivity during your self-quarantine. Make your time worthwhile, because once you go back to the office… You might look back and realize that you shouldn’t take this opportunity for granted.

1. Speaking of self-care, this is the best time to pamper yourself…

Some of yall glorify self-care so much, but you get panic when you need to isolate yourself? Chill! Apply what you advertise, and do it all out when you can.

You could try that bath bomb and spend some time in the bathtub while drinking wine. Or just focus on your skincare and try that face mask most beauty bloggers recommend. You have the time. Even when you work from home, no one gives a shit you’ll work on your things while putting the mask on in your pajamas.

The definition of self-care for everyone could be different. For me, that’s what I call self-care. If you think self-care is finishing a good game on your own, then do it! It’s your time.

2. Binge-watching those movies and TV shows you used to like.

I think everyone has that TV show that they won’t get tired of watching, no matter what. It’s time to reminisce and rewatch that show to remember the plot line from a new point of view. Believe me, I keep watching the same TV show throughout the years (That 70’s Show, Hello Wisconsin!) and they never fail to make me laugh everytime.

Sometimes there were jokes that I just got to understand the context, even though I watched that episode some time ago. And that, my friends, is only a small sign that you’ve actually grown as a person.

Seeing something from a new point of view is great, because it reminds you that yep things have changed you. But some things remain the same. It is the same, but better. Like 2.0 version of it or so. 😛

3. Find a new hobby, or learn something new.

With wifi and computer or smartphone on your hand, you could basically do anything. You will never run out of things to do when you have the resources. Just decide what kind of things you want to start learning. It could be anything from learning how to code, or even make some crochet.

Well, Youtube University could give you a lot of tutorials for almost everything. And now that you actually have time to start doing it, why not start doing something that you want to do for a long time?!

Chances are, you might find out your hidden talent. Even if it turns out to be not your cup of coffee, you still learn something new. Either way, it’s a good thing. 😉

4. Finish that book you keep saying you’re gonna read.

I don’t know about you, but if you’re a reader like me then chances are you’ll have some stock of books that you have on the shelves, but you actually haven’t read yet. I know, too many excuses. It could be anything from thinking that you never have time to finish that book, or you simply get distracted whenever you start reading.

Well, start reading it now during your self-quarantine. 2 weeks will be long enough for you to finish one book. Or even two. Although let’s get real now that it seems possible to finish say War and Peace during the period.

If that’s the case, you could always start with some light reading first? The point is, just finish something that you always keep procrastinating.

Isolating yourself from the outside world could be challenging, but it’s not the end of everything. With the technology these days, you could almost feel like you’re not in self-quarantine, to begin with.
